Why do we invite you to use our soap, why it is better for you?
Well, we invite you to indulge yourself with the purchase of our handmade luxury goat milk soap created from quality ingredients gathered from origins throughout the world. Each batch is INDIVIDUALLY CREATED with quality ingredients that will provide to you what we believe to be some of the most beneficial products we can choose for your skin’s health and your enjoyment. We believe once you have experienced the delightfully luscious, nutrient rich, silky soft, caressingly thick, smooth, creamy and stable, cleansing lather of our handcrafted luxury goat milk soap to cleanse your skin, we believe you will be so delighted with how your skin feels that you will agree with us to never to go back to using those “store bought” soaps again.
Did you know that most commercially produced soaps contain petroleum products, alcohols, synthetics and preservatives which actually produces a detergent product - not a soap? This is not so with Southern Touch Soap Works, Inc. soaps. The process we use to produce our 100% handmade soap has been passed down from generation to generation but we use a more modern twist in the process which makes the soap more desirable than when our “grannies” made their soap. Long ago, women made soap for the family from lye leached from the ashes of the family hearth fires. They would then mix the lye water with animal cooking fats. There was no way of knowing just how much lye was being used so the resulting product was often harsh. True soap cannot be made without an alkaline solution. Yes, we use the old-fashioned method of combining vegetable oils with other specialty luxury oils (no animal by products) and butters (no nut butters) with an alkali solution made with distilled water, goat milk and Sodium Hydroxide to begin the process of saponification that turns it all into soap. With our advanced and progressive methods of evaluation and calculation, this saponification process no longer needs to be feared as it once was in the “olden days”. Today, there is no need for concern that the soaps created by hand at Southern Touch Soap Works, Inc. will ever damage or “burn” your skin as we have “heard“ our grandmother’s soap might have done. The entire saponification process (turning the ingredients into soap) will have been completed within 24 hours after combining the oils and alkali solution so no active Sodium Hydroxide residue remains in our finished handmade soap products.

About STSW SOAPS:
In our soap factory, we combine saponified OILS of Coconut, Palm Kernel Flakes, Olive, Palm and Castor Oil. Just for you, we add SPECIALTY LUXURY OIL of Meadowfoam Seed Oil. We then include our SPECIAL TOUCH by adding EXOTIC BUTTERS of Shea, Cocoa, and Mango. Pure SILK FIBERS are added to each batch of soap to produce an ULTRA SILKY luxury soap we feel is beyond compare!! We believe that the exquisite properties of each of these products, along with the addition of the GOAT MILK we produce on our caprine dairy farm, will provide you with an undeniably superior product that is unlike any other you have ever purchased for your personal cleansing enjoyment.

We DO NOT USE any NUT OILS or NUT BUTTERS in our soap as many people are unknowingly allergic to these products. No chemical preservatives or artificial additives are ever used so our soap will cleanse your skin without drying. We would recommend that you go ahead and start your luxury soap experience and use your soaps within one year from purchase. Because we use specialty oils and butters in our handmade soaps they are not expected to “last” as long as the soaps you purchase at the store. Allowing your handmade bar of soap to “dry” on a slotted soap dish between uses will extend the life of the bar.
Each batch of soap and lotion bar is tested here by our family members. No animals were used in the testing our products.

Our product line continually changes:
Each bar is individually hand cut and packaged ESPECIALLY FOR YOU, our customer. Because of this fact, you can expect some variations in size, shape, and weight with some slight imperfections. These irregularities simply add to what makes any handcrafted item original and unique.

Profiles of the Basic Oils Used in Our Soap and Lotion Bar Makings:
(We do not sell these oils)
Our skin is an organ and it is important to nourish it with the best products available. We want you to know what is written about the properties of the ingredients you will be using on your skin. Here is a list of the oils we use in our soap making process with some of the research information we have obtained about each of them. There are many ideas about what these products can do for your skin but understand that result will vary from person to person. Even though none of this information is meant as a medical claim by us or as a means for cure or for healing any skin aliments or conditions, we feel certain you will find that to use our soap is a luxurious experience. Our claim to you is simply that you will receive a true hand milled soap. Enjoy!!!

(Coconut Oil: Cocos Nucifera Oil) Coconut Oil is light and non-greasy. It is known for being an oil that will not clog pores and is readily absorbed into the skin. This oil resists rancidity and contributes to a hard soap with a fluffy lather. Historically, it is noted to be very good for dry, itchy, sensitive skin. The oil is extracted from dried coconuts known as copra. Once the moisture content of the meat is minimized, the copra is grated and expeller pressed to remove the oil. This oil is refined to produce an oil suitable for consumption.

Olive Oil: (Olea Europaea Fruit Oil) Olive Oil is pressed from the olive fruit and is purported to be especially good for dry skin and to attract external moisture to the skin acting as a humectant while still allowing normal functions of the skin to take place (perspiring, shedding of dead skin cells, and releasing sebum). It has been said that it is soothing to inflamed skin and an excellent conditioner for hair and nails. It is rich in minerals, vitamins, proteins, and essential fatty acids, especially alpha linolenic acid which is a good skin cell regenerator.

Palm Oil: Palm Oil makes a nice hard bar when used with other oils such as coconut and olive. This oil is known to help the soap resist “melting."

Palm Kernel Flakes: Palm Kernel Flakes lends to a smooth textured soap. This oil is pressed from the kernels of the Central or South American oil or palm tree. It makes a white, very hard bar, that lathers well because of it’s high percentage of lauric acid.

Specialty Oils, Used in Soap and Lotion Bars:

Avocado Oil: (Persea Gratissima Seed Oil) This oil is obtained from the pulp of the avocado and is highly therapeutic and rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B5 (Panthothenic Acid), D, & E, minerals, protein, lecithin and essential fatty acids. It has been used in African skin treatments for centuries. It is a penetrating nutrient for eczema, dry, dull, dehydrated and mature skin. It is said to have healingnd regenerating qualities. We use this oil as a super-fatting agent.

Cocoa Butter: (Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter) Cocoa Butter is pressed from the cocoa bean and is a by-product from the making of chocolate. It is one of the most stable fats known and contains natural antioxidants that prevent rancidity. It is used for it’s smooth texture. Historically, it is said that cocoa butter provides elasticity to skin and excellent skin moisturizing benefits that protect from dryness and helps to filter out daily harmful UV radiation that is a cause for premature aging. It helps create a hard bar of soap.

Jojoba Oil: Jojoba Oil is actually a liquid wax derived from the jojoba bean. It is not a nut based oil. It offers the traits of both an oil and a wax to make a great soap ingredient. It is very similar to our own body oil secretion known as sebum. It is rich in vitamin E and will not turn rancid as it has natural antioxidant properties. It is believed to be highly penetrating, a wonderful moisturizer and humectant that regulates the flow of human sebum (skin oils) without plugging pores and maintains balanced moisture. It contains protein, minerals, plant wax, and a natural anti-inflammatory called “myristic acid” and is, therefore, understood to be a good oil for arthritis and rheumatism. It is said to be good for mature aging skin and wrinkles although, it is good for all skin types and is easily absorbed. It is believed to be especially good for eczema and psoriasis. We use this oil as a super-fatting agent.

Mango Butter: Mango Butter comes from the kernels of the fruit of the mango tree. It is not a nut butter. It is said to have great emolliency and gives some protection to the skin from the sun. Historically, it has been said that Mango Butter prevents drying of the skin and formation of wrinkles and reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores flexibility. The “butter” is carefully refined and deodorized to obtain a product that meets the stringent requirements for cosmetic applications. It contains a high content of C18:0 and C18:1 fatty acids.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil: (Limnanthes Alba) Meadowfoam is a herbaceous plant that is native to the pacific Northwest of the United States. When in bloom, it produces a white flower which resembles a meadow of foam. The oil from the Meadowfoam plant is unique because it contains over 98% fatty acids long-chain carbon atoms. It has higher quality triglyceride levels compared to other vegetable oils. It is resistant to oxidation due to the naturally occurring tocopherols which is one of the most stable lipids known; therefore, it has a long shelf life and lends stability to other oils. Meadowfoam oil was developed to replace sperm whale oil in the 1970’s, in the effort to protect the species. It is understood that Meadowfoam Oil is known to form a moisture barrier that helps to prevent moisture loss and is, therefore, believed to be an excellent oil to use in hair products and products for cleaning and massage. It is said that Meadowfoam Seed Oil can remilitarize the skin like no other oil can and so it helps to add shine and moisture to the hair and scalp.

Monoi de Tahiti, Tiare Oil: Monoi de Tahiti is a truly beautiful exotic oil from Polynesia. The word Monoi (pronounced Mah-noy) means scented oil. It is created by soaking/macerating Tiare (Gardenia) petals in refined coconut oil for fifteen days. The true Monoi de Tahiti carries “Appellation of Origin” stamp guarantee and is produced under very controlled manufacturing methods to ensure the highest quality oil. Monoi de Tahiti has been shown to penetrate and hydrate the skin rapidly and to reduce trans-epidermal water loss.

Shea Butter: (Butyrospermum Parki Fruit) African Carite butter. Shea butter is a fat obtained from the nut (which is really a fruit) of the Shea Tree which grows in Africa. It has been used by African healers for thousands of years as an exotic luxury emollient, reported to benefit dry, damaged, and maturing skin. It is known to have a high content of fatty acids which gives it an ability to moisturize and retain the elasticity of the skin. It is said that shea butter can also protect the skin against the damaging effects of the sun while repairing cellular degeneration. Shea butter is known for it’s natural healthy and healing attributes which works in partnership with your skin and body chemistry. High in linoleic acid, shea butter has historically been known to have a nourishing effect on skin cells by helping to enhance cellular regeneration and capillary circulation (this helps the healing of small wounds, cracks, crevices, and skin ulcers). Scientific studies also indicates that it increases capillary circulation, which means more oxygen is being delivered to the tissue, and toxins are more readily released from the body. Shea butter is so smooth and creamy that it can’t help but give an extra bit of luxury to any soap or lotion.

Profiles of the Additional Favorite Products Used in Our Soap Making:

Silk Fibers: Silk fibers are added for rich moisturizing and added protein.

Goat Milk: Goat Milk has been recognized throughout the world as a natural emollient for centuries. Goat’s milk is a natural source of Alpha-hydroxyl acids which helps rejuvenate, sooth, and moisturize the skin making it feel smoother. It contains important vitamins such as A, B6, B12, and E. It has three times more Beta-casein than cow’s milk. Caseins are easily absorbed into the skin and allow for quick hydration of dry skin. The content of trigycerides, capric, caprylic, and caproic acid has historically been known to help balance the skin’s natural PH and promotes natural exfoliation of dry skin. Goat’s milk, therefore, is an excellent ingredient to add to bath soaks, creams, lotions, and hand milled soaps. We raise our own dairy goats!

Oatmeal: Oatmeal is said to have anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory properties. (Source: Skin Pharmcology and Applied Skin Physiology March-April 2002, pages 120-1124). Soap containing oatmeal is supposed to be better at absorbing oil and soothing sensitive skin than other soaps or bar cleansers.

Honey: Honey is a non-oily moisturizer drawing moisture from the air to your skin. This means that honey can assist in creating a greater moisture content on the surface of your skin. Honey hydrates your skin by drawing in as much water as there is humidity in the atmosphere around you.
